London’s lost route to the sea to celebrate Surrey's heritage
A flat walk following the route of the old Wey and Arun Canal to Bramley Wharf with Trust historians explaining the role of the Wey & Arun Canal in the risky business of transporting gunpowder by barge and introducing the characters responsible for taking tolls at Bramley Wharf. Walkers will also get a chance to stop off and admire the beauty of Hunt Nature Park via the viewing platform built by the Trust.
Time: 2.30 p.m. start to finish at approximately 4.30 p.m.
Meet: at Gunpowder Store, Stonebridge Wharfside, Shalford, parking is available at Broadford Business Park, Shalford GU4 8EP (behind the Parrot Inn) on the A248 Shalford-Godalming road.
