Messing About on the Wey

This walk along the banks of the River Wey in town traces the history of pleasure boating from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.

Date: Saturday 23rd September

Time: 2.30 pm

Meet: Guildford Museum, Castle Arch, Quarry St, Guildford GU1 3SX

what3words address: ///dive.zooms.tame

Grid reference for start point: SU996492

Description of walk: Although development in the twentieth century has greatly affected this part of the town, the river itself remains largely unchanged. We will look at historic images, from where they were taken and see how the Navigation moved from a commercial waterway to a place for leisure.

The walk is about a half a mile long with regular stops, and will finish at the new Boathouse.
