The Countdown Commences

With less than six weeks to go, the plans for Guildford Walkfest are coming on well. We have 45 walks ready to go and a couple more which are still awaiting confirmation.

We have short walks, medium length (3-6 miles) and long walks for you to choose from. There are Town Centre walks, rambles around the countryside and some “special events”.

One of these “special events” is a sponsored walk on Saturday 18th September in aid of Guildford Street Angels. We did a similar event in our 2019 season when we walked from Guildford to Denbies at Dorking. This year we are heading in the other direction by following the North Downs Way from Guildford to Farnham. Last time we helped raise over £3,000 and this year it would be great if we can exceed that figure. Full details will appear on the Walkfest pages and are already available on the Surrey Hills Society website who are hosting this event for us.

One week later we have another “special”. This time it is a short walk! We are privileged to have Jake Tyler joining us to lead a walk to Pewley Down. He will discuss the book he has written about the way a 3000 mile walk around Britain helped him to see a more positive future after struggling with mental health problems for much of his life. This should be a fascinating event.

As we all know, the “elephant in the room” is Covid! We obviously cannot be sure what the situation will be in September so we are making our plans – with contingencies – to cover pretty much all eventualities. We managed to do everything safely last year and produce a very successful and popular Walkfest so there is no reason why we can’t do so again this time. Nearer the start of September, we will update our Covid web page but for now, you can see how we managed things last year.

Enjoy the summer and keep walking
