Walkfest IS Coming

Welcome to our new, refreshed website. For those of you who have been checking us out recently and couldn’t find much on the old site, apologies. The last few weeks have been especially challenging for us as we tried to understand what our various walk groups would be able to offer for Walkfest this year and to arrange them into a programme. We also had a few gremlins in our website so, together with programme creation, our volunteers have had an extremely busy time.

I’d especially like to thank Ian Blyth of C & H Marketing, one of our sponsors, for taking time out of his busy schedule to get the website back to normality after it seemed to gain a mind of its own.

Well hopefully, that is all behind us now. Our Secretary has been busy converting all the walks offers into a format where they can appear on our website for you to take a look at. Since all of the walks this year need to be booked in advance due to Covid constraints, we’ve had to make sure that suitable arrangements are in place to do so.

When you look through the programme you will see that some walks are bookable through the organisers own systems – for example Walking for Health and Surrey Hills Society. In other cases, the Guildford Tourist Information Centre has kindly agreed to act as the booking agent. Again, we are incredibly grateful for their assistance and support.

In spite of the ways that Covid has affected everyone’s lives and plans, we still have a super walks programme for you this year. The number of walks is down – in part, due to the need for extra walk leaders – but the quality and range is still there. We have old favourites plus some new ideas. For example, who fancies a walk along the North Downs Way from Farnham to Guildford as the sun sets slowly in the west and dusk brings out the creatures of the night.

Take a look through the programme and find the walks you fancy. Mark them in your diary and book as soon as possible. Numbers per walk are, unfortunately, restricted this year so don’t leave it until the last minute.

In the meantime, enjoy the summer weather, get out and enjoy a walk in the fresh air and gently limber up for an exciting Walkfest 2020.
