A personal thank you to our supporters from our Chair, Christine Howard

August 11, 2019

As we approach the beginning of Walkfest 2019 we felt it appropriate to recognise our wonderful supporters and sponsors, without their help the event would not now be heading into its 12th glorious year.

You might think that a free festival might be free to organise but sadly not, bright pink tabards, the festival brochure, advertising flyers and Pete Lambert’s outrageous biscuit habit must all be paid for.

Bevan Wilson Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinics have been stalwart supporters of Walkfest for six years. In addition to their financial support for the website and brochures, company MD James Avery along with his family and Bella, their dog are keen participants on many of the walks.

Based at Boxgrove, Bevan Wilson also have clinics in and around Guildford & the Villages and as their name suggests, they really are exceptional at treating and preventing sports injuries, including of course those associated with walking.

Experience Guildford provides Walkfest with meeting facilities, financial support and the wonderful Pete Lambert. Pete works closely with town centre businesses and encourages people of all ages to get out and enjoy walking. He is also of course a hugely experienced walk leader and charity fund-raiser.

The Guildford Dragon is our media partner, they work tirelessly to promote Walkfest on their hugely popular news-based website. David Rose of course leads many walks himself and is widely regarded as an expert in local history, particularly military history, if you get a chance you really should try to join one of his walks.

Sue Carne at Not Just Travel is a bespoke travel agent, arranging holidays for discerning clients in the UK and around the world. Sue is an expert in tailoring packages to suit most interests and is a genuine source of knowledge and practical advice on her subject, if you are thinking of taking a holiday soon, please give Sue a call.

Finding a local, trusted handyman can be a trial. Look no further than Nik Church of My Local Handymen…Nik and his small team of experts can turn their hand to any job, from hanging a picture to installing a bathroom….’Big or Small, they Fix it All’, Nik can be contacted on 07717 690 444

We want business owners to join us at Walkfest and when they are out and about enjoying the beautiful Surrey countryside the last thing they should be worrying about is Payroll and Auto-Enrolment services. Dena Dixon and her team at PayNex work with businesses of all sizes to take away the pain of payroll, if you or somebody you know runs a business, please direct them to PayNex.

Based at The Royal Surrey County Hospital right here in Guildford, GUTS is the national charity helping to improve bowel cancer screening, detection and survival rates. Their work is invaluable, please visit their website to see for yourself how they help thousands every year.

And last but by no means least we thank Guildford Borough Council, the founders of the Festival. For more than a decade since Keith Chesterton dreamed up the idea of a Guildford Walking Festival, the Council has supported the event tirelessly.

Far too many individuals have been involved to mention by name but it would be remiss not to tip our walking hats to the wonderful Helen Barnsley, Ken Bare and Lionel Smith, without whose efforts we might not be looking forward to another great Walkfest.

Please use the services of our supporters if you can, and why not mention Walkfest when you get in touch.

Thank you all, your support is genuinely appreciated!
