Saturday 28th September is an important date in the 2019 Walkfest calendar. Anyone arriving at Guildford Railway Station between 9.15am and 9.30am is likely to get a surprise. Gathering there will be a “Host of Angels”.
But these are not just any angels. These are Guildford Street Angels – that wonderful group of volunteers who can be found in Guildford’s town centre streets on a Friday & Saturday night, and are known for their calming presence, giving practical care and support & working in partnership with the other services to enable people to get home safely. They work all year round, starting at 10.30 pm, until around 4 am with each Street Angel committing to volunteer for 1 night every 4 weeks. That’s real dedication.
To support their work, Surrey Hills Society, as part of Walkfest, is leading a sponsored walk along the North Downs Way from Guildford to Dorking. Angels and some of their supporters will be taking part, along with several of the Surrey Hills Society’s key members such as the Chairman and both Vice-Presidents.
This is an incredibly worthwhile cause and you can get involved. You can donate money or sponsor the Angels who are walking by visiting http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/19Walkfestangelwalk
Alternatively, why not join the walk and be part of the experience. The route from Guildford to Dorking takes in the beautiful scenery of St Martha’s and Newlands Corner quite apart from the great views from Ranmore before we descend to Denbies vineyard. To be part of the walk, head to the Surrey Hills Society website at www.surreyhillssociety.org/events. We would love to see you.
