Tour of the Ancient Yews of Merrow Downs

This will be a gentle stroll with the Tree & Woodland Office, Geoff Monck as your guide. All ages welcome.

Time: 2pm to 3pm

Meet: At the small private road (which is GBC land) that leads to Amberwell, postcode GU4 8SE. Coming from Newlands Corner towards Clandon along the Shere Road, it is the next turning on the right after the Guildford Manor Hotel.

The ancient yews of Merrow Downs are one of Surrey’s best kept secrets; this is a medium length guided walk taking in a selection of some of the most significant ancient yews. Learn about the original ancient yew wood-pasture habitat and about some of the serious challenges facing the population in the modern era and the current conservation management being carried out to try to address this. Terrain not suitable for pushchairs. No dogs.
