Wildlife on Pewley Down and Pewley Meadow

Come and learn about the history and rich wildlife of these much-loved and wonderfully scenic sites close to the centre of Guildford.

Date: Saturday 2nd September

Time: 2.45 pm start, finishing 4.15 pm (though early departure possible)

Meet: At end of Pewley Hill road by entrance to Pewley Down GU1 3SW

Any travel advice: Guildford is well served with both bus and rail connections,  Pewley Down is 15 minutes’ walk up Pewley Hill from the Town Centre.

Description of walk: A leisurely stroll around the chalk downland immediately to the east of Guildford including the new Pewley Meadows reserve. Join Jonathan Mitchell (chair of Pewley Down Volunteers, vice-chair of Friends of Pewley Meadows) talking about the history of the two sites and looking for some of the specialist flora and fauna to be found on the sites.

Any specific walk conditions / issues:  Some steep paths on Pewley Down, but these can be avoided. Early departure possible.

Dogs allowed / not allowed?  Dogs on leads allowed, but no dogs are allowed within the inside of Pewley Meadows.

Length of Walk:  2 miles
