Well, it’s now only five weeks until we have the first walk of this year’s Walkfest. The full programme of walks is visible on the website and it’s time to start checking out which walks interest you.
If you are anything like me, the diary fills up fast and commitments invariably clash. Now is the time to get your Walkfest walk dates slotted into your schedule so that you don’t miss out. Not all walks require you to pre-book but most of those that do are already open for booking. Why not do so now.
I’ve already identified 11 walks that I want to do – and, time permitting - there are several Town Guides walks that I want to join too. The beauty of these is that, if I can’t get to join them during Walkfest, most of them will be run again in the near future. Having said that, each guide has their own specialist knowledge so every time one joins their walks one learns something new.
This year we have a few new providers and formats – for example the evening walks by Back on Track (7th, 10th, 21st) and the Pewley Meadow one (2nd). In both cases, September is an ideal time to take part – the weather should still be good, the countryside will still be green and growing well. Add in enthusiastic new leaders and we have the makings of some very popular events.
Talking of enthusiastic leaders, the walks led by our local historian (David Rose) are always extremely popular. All walks have a booking limit – often so that you can hear what the leader is telling you – so don’t leave it too late to book David’s informative sessions on 1st and 22nd
And just as a reminder, now is the time to get the walking shoes or boots out so that you can check them – and replace if necessary. Of course, it’s also time to get those legs moving and walking our wonderful area throughout the coming weeks - Enjoy it!
