With less than three weeks to go until the Guildford Walkfest 2025 programme is published, it’s time to re-activate our Blog.

We already know that there is a great programme in store for you with some old favourites and numerous new routes or partner organisations. Over the coming weeks, we will be profiling some of the providers, introducing new walk topics and highlighting the pleasures of walking in and around the borough of Guildford.
Across the years, we have noted the popularity of shorter walks – especially when they are combined with information about the sights along the way provided by knowledgeable walk leaders. From our launch event on 1st September with its 'Chilworth Gunpowder Mills Stroll' through to the Town Guides 'Hidden Guildford' walk on the last day of the month, we have got this aspect well covered.
There is a saying in the tourism industry that the key needs are “tea and toilets”! Well, we’ve got this aspect covered too. Naturally, some of our longer walks require packed lunches or organised stops but, conversely, many events either take place close to the town centre or seem to have refreshment options included.
Experience has shown that the post-walk social and refreshment element is just as important to participants as the exercise from the actual walk. Long may it continue! Walkfest is not just about clocking up the miles. Whilst our aims include getting people walking more, exploring new parts of the Borough and enjoying our wonderful countryside, it’s about far more than that.
The social interactions, new friendships, support in trying something new plus the relaxed company of other like-minded people are just as important to the success of Walkfest. So even if you are not a regular walker or are nervous about getting involved in something new, take a look at the walks programme and join us for some of this years activities.
I look forward to meeting you all.
Ken Bare – Coordinator of Guildford Walkfest
